That Time I Tried to Meal Prep

Ugh. So I tried to meal prep and failed. Not miserably, but pretty damn bad.

I’m weak. I’ll admit that. It was also my mom and friend’s birthday on Friday so the meals for Friday and Saturday went out the window.

Here was my plan…

20140128-103643.jpgOkay first let me say, this was expensive. Not as expensive as the typical grocery list that would’ve certainly included Oreo’s but still expensive none the less. Mostly because I spent almost what I would’ve on a normal shopping list and that list would’ve included things for my parents. All of this was just for me. On the other hand, we usually eat out 6 or 7 days of the week so added on this might have been cheaper but that’s too much math to get into right now.

The meals themselves seemed like good ideas, since they were very diverse. I got them from trying to follow GNC’s week 1 fitness challenge meal guide. That may have been my first mistake. I tried to do both at the same time, but that didn’t work at all.

Since I’m big on learning from my mistakes here’s what I’ve learned so far,

  1. Meal prep for 3-4 days not 7
  2. Its easier to make a big serving of veggies and starches and just change around the protein
  3. Tupperware is key. I bought these from Target and they’re awesome.
  4. I love the site
  5. There’s also a ton of Instagram and Pinterest posts/accounts that can help. (Thank you social media)

I’ve been half ass meal prepping since then because it’s easier than going out to get lunch while I’m temping in an office. Sometimes I forget to go shopping on Sundays or I’m too tired to cook.  Sometimes I just don’t have the money. Loosing fat and eating healthy are definitely a priority to me so I’m slowly but surely still trying to figure this out. Got any tips for me? Are you struggle to meal prep too?
